About Us

Metafora is an innovative transport planning and traffic engineering consultancy. We offer a tailored, sustainable, hands-on and fast approach to your projects.

Our philosophy is based on the following:

Curiosity – we love the question “why”. We don’t take anything for granted, but rather view each project individually. We want to understand your projects’ needs and tailor the outcomes.

Sustainability – we look for the potential to shift the travel mode from cars to public transport, cycling or walking. Implementing healthy transport alternatives may reduce the project costs by reducing the space required for car parking. This also responds to the shift within the local, state and national governments to reduce traffic congestion and emissions. Another benefit is increased safety by reducing the number of cars needing to access the site.

Many paths lead to a solution – we apply a scientific approach with a pragmatic twist: as data can be interpreted in many ways, we look through the eyes of the client, the end user and authorities to find a cost-effective and elegant solution.

Affordability & speed – through the boutique nature of our business, we are able to provide excellent and fast service at a lower cost.

Our Director:

Kasia Balsam - founder of Metafora

Kasia Balsam
MSc in civil engineering
Majored in traffic and transport

After Kasia’s initial experience as a traffic and transport engineer in Germany, she decided to continue her career in Australia. Having worked for many years for a leading traffic and parking consultancy in Sydney, Kasia gained deep understanding of local issues, established relationships within various levels of authorities and learnt how best to achieve resolution.

Kasia’s passion has been turning towards finding a healthy balance between cars and alternative transport modes. She was involved in developing a process, and then lead a number of projects focusing on enhancing the active and public transport utilisation around school sites.

Kasia has great expertise in consulting with stakeholders and negotiating strategies and outcomes. This is due to her data-focused analysis and simple & realistic visualisation of proposed changes. Having recently completed the “Movement and Place” and “Heathy Street” courses, Kasia has enhanced her collaborative techniques, leading to the development of better places.
